Firefighters visit The Kooralbyn International School

Four members arrived in their truck to talk to the school's youngest children about fire safety.

Firefighters Kelsey Green and Jason Buglass spoke to the children about fire safety and what to do in an emergency situation.

The children impressed all in attendance with their ability to grasp the information they were given.

The students enjoyed firefighter Buglass's demonstration of how to initiate "drop down low and go, go go".

The students learned about various pieces of equipment including the breathing apparatus firefighters might wear when attending a fire.

During question and answer time, the children were enthusiastic and engaged in discussion about the best thing to do if their house caught fire.

Firefighters Green and Buglass read the children an interactive story and handed out stickers for each child who answered a question correctly.

By far the most popular part of the session was the hands-on activities where children got to sit in the fire truck, play with the lights and siren and learn how to operate the fire hose.

Overseeing the proceedings were Lieutenants Dylan Chidgey and Andrew Emmett, who explained the fire truck equipment to the enthusiastic students.

"Fire education helps teach children about fire safety, so they know what a good fire is, what a bad fire is, when to call 000 and to make sure they know their address," Lieutenant Chidgey said.

"The sessions are not just about fire education, it's also about other emergency services including Queensland Ambulance and Queensland Police.

"We talk about what our roles are and let them know that we are here to assist in an emergency situation."

At the end of the education session, when asked who wanted to be a firefighter when they grow up, there was son shortage of hands in the air.
