Kingfishers defeat Redlands at home 24-0

Coach Charlie Gee said the Beaudesert side was more than ready for the challenge.

"The Beaudesert Kingfishers were out to make a statement to the competition after coming off a big win the previous week," he said.

"With the season just passing halfway, and sitting lower on the ladder, they knew it was a vital game to win."

Gee said both teams started strong, matching each other throughout the first quarter.

"The Beaudesert forwards were exceptional in the middle and set the platform for the game," he said.

"The first try came in the 18th minute to Beaudesert, through a well executed back line movement, putting Jayme White in on the corner.

"It wasn't long until they were in again in the 25th minute through Tommy Luscombe on the other wing."

Beaudesert finished the first half strong with another try from Jayden Fairhead on the edge, leading 16-0 at half time.

"Redlands came out strong again in the second half but once again our forwards prevailed and started gaining momentum.

"It took 10 minutes for Beaudesert's fourth try by a wonderful put down on the wing for Tommy Luscombe second of the night."

Gee said defence was key in the second half as the Redlands began to tire but still had ample opportunities to try and claw back.

"However, gutsy efforts and great teamwork held them out," he said.

"The last try was scored by Jake Stephan on the edge, stepping inside and scoring in front of a packed crowd in the bird cage."

The final score was 24-0 to Beaudesert.

"Every player stood out and stepped up to the occasion," Gee said.

"Beaudesert are looking to make it three from three when they take on the second-placed St Brendan's at home 4pm next Saturday," Gee said.

"This will be a very important game in terms of the season and we'll need every bit of support to get them over the line."
