Traffic chaos as Beaudesert slammed by storm, flash floods

UPDATE, 4.45pm

Traffic is again moving slowly on the Mount Lindesay Highway at Cryna after flash flooding closed the road temporarily.

Traffic is backed up on the Mount Lindesay Highway at Cryna after flash flooding this afternoon saw the road go underwater.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Police Service said the flooding created a hazard and it was not known when the highway would be reopened.

Flooding has also created a hazard for drivers on Beaudesert Nerang Road at Tabragalba with several local roads within Beaudesert also impacted.

A SUDDEN downpour has created havoc in Beaudesert with the inundation causing road closures and flooding to shops and businesses in the township.

Coles at Beaudesert Fair was temporarily closed but a spokesperson said once the water on the floor is mopped up the store will reopen.

Traffic on the Mount Lindesay Highway and Beaudesert Nerang Road came to a standstill due to flash flooding.

Felim Hannity from the Bureau of Meteorology said the Beaudesert region copped about 70 millimetres of rain since 9am.

"Sixty-seven millimetres of that fell in just one hour and 25mm in 15 minutes," he said.

"The storms are tracking further north so that seems to be it for the day around Beaudesert.

"We might see a burst of storm activity later tonight and early tomorrow and there's a chance of more severe weather activity tomorrow."
