Beaudesert cricketers selected to play for south-east Queensland

BEAUDESERT Cricket Club will be well represented in the state championships after being selected for the south-east Queensland side on the weekend.

Jaxon Hohl, Rob McClure and Clancy Hardy were selected for the Under 14 side, while Declan O'Donnell was picked for the Under 12s and Archie Foster selected as a shadow player.

This came as last week's rain put a spanner in the works for some games, while Division 2 and Beaudesert Cricket Club junior teams played as the warm weather hit on Saturday.

Division 1 matches were cancelled due to the rain so it was up to Division 2 to carry the Beaudesert seniors hopes of a win in their game against Greenbank Lions.

After losing the toss and being sent in to bowl Beaudesert division 2 started slow, with the Lions gaining the upper hand with the bat.

Club manager Leigh Morgan said the Lions then suffered consistent wickets to end up 7/191.

"The bowlers performed well with Jeffery Teese and Carl Johnston both taking catches off their own bowling," she said.

"Carl Johnston finished with figures of 5/2/16, Greg Wilkie 3/1/19 and Jeffery Teese 7/1/26.

"In response the Lions bowled tight and maintained pressure on Beaudesert.

"Three quick wickets had Beaudesert on the back foot before stabilising with Blake White, Jeffery Teese and Myles Garner with Jason Condrick providing an entertaining cameo at the end of the innings.

"Myles Garner top scored on debut for Beaudesert with 38, Jason Condrick providing 32 and Jeffery Teese 27.

"The Lions proved too strong with Beaudesert only able to score 178."

Beaudesert played Springwood Suns Stars at home, and after winning the toss, elected to bat first.

"We batted solidly but found runs hard to come by in the damp conditions finishing with a score of 5/65," Ms Morgan said.

"Top scorers this week were Thomas Nairn 5, Patrick Overell 5, and the rest of the team making up the total.

"Springwood found batting a little easier in the drying conditions and reached our score with little difficulty finishing with 3/159.

"Best bowlers were Nick Stephens 4/1/1/8, Jack Opperman 2/0/1/13, and Jack O'Neill 4/0/1/29.

"All the boys toiled in very hot conditions and continued to try their best."

Last year Jaxon Hohl, Rob McClure and Clancy Hardy were selected for the Under 13 state championships along with Seb Potts. Beaudesert star Jim McClure was named 2020 captain of the SEQC Stormers team.

Ms Morgan said the club had a 50-year history in Beaudesert and was proud of the achievements of young local cricketers.
