Beaudesert hosts first ever McAuley vs Trinity rugby league match

BEAUDESERT students took part in the inaugural McAuley versus Trinity Rugby League Challenge on Thursday.

Two games were played between McAuley College, Beaudesert, and Trinity College, Beenleigh.

Coach Stephen Moriarty said the college's Year 8 and Year 10 teams.

"McAuley College was the convincing winner of the Year 8 match 36 points to nil," he said.

"The Trinity team was unable to contain McAuley's rampant forward pack led by Alex Wilson, Darby Lynam and Tylah Vaitupu, who also achieved the honour of scoring the first ever try in an official match on McAuley's Fisher's Paddock field.

"Other wholehearted performers in the dominant McAuley win were Riley Jones, Zach Jupe-Puxty, Jaxon Hohl and Seb Potts.

"In the Year 10 match, the big Trinity team dominated the first half with a 20 points to 8 lead to the visitors at half time."

Moriarty said the second half was all McAuley College as the team's superior skill and fitness came to the fore.

"McAuley College piled on 26 unanswered points in the second half to run out 34 points to 20 winners," he said.

"The victory was a wonderful conclusion to the school rugby league season after a very successful SECA competition where the McAuley College Year 10 team were undefeated champions against much larger Brisbane schools."

Thursday's results mean that McAuley College will hold the Challenge trophy until the two Colleges meet again next year.

Also in attendance and representing local sponsors, was Gelita general manager Tony Finch, who was presented with a team jersey as well as a framed photo of the McAuley girls' rugby team.
