BEAUDESERT Kingfishers have been knocked out of the SEQW Division 3 competition by the Logan Village Mustangs.
The Kingies lost 26-24 after conceding a penalty in front of the posts in extra time of the knockout semi-final.
It was as close as they had come to beating the Mustangs all season.
The Mustangs looked like they would record another victory in normal time, when they led 24-18 as the clock wound down.
Katiee Andersen crossed out wide for the Kingies, and Josephine Samphier nailed the conversion in windy conditions to take the game to extra time.
The Kingfishers gave the opposition the upper hand by giving the ball back just after the kick off. before the penalty which cost them the match.
Earlier, the Kingies took the lead when some early pressure paid off with a try to Jaime Coetzee in the 13th minute.
Olivia Thomas scored shortly after, before two converted tries to the Mustangs had them in front.
Lauren Cahill scored under the sticks in the dying stages of the first half, and Andersen's conversion gave the Kingies the lead they deserved.
Andersen crossed again in the second half, but the Kingies could not hold the Mustangs out. They scored twice to and looked to have it won until Andersen's final try.
