The Gelita senior men's Kingfishers side grabbed a much needed win over the spirited Eagleby Giants on Saturday.
Coach Mick Harkin said the Kingfishers started well with tries early on to Clinton Owen and Jag Stephan.
"Some good ball movement saw Declan Mills cross the line too," he said.
"Eagleby then spent some time down our end.
"Some desperate defence held them off, but after almost six sets pressing our line they were able to push through."
Harkin said Michael Paulson, Zac Harkin and Jayden Fairhead showed great resilience in defence, holding Eagleby out for most the game.
"After half time we once again saw some great attacking plays with Bailey Mcplaike, Joel Nilon & Hobie Pegg crossing the line for four points each," he said.
"This, combined with Jason Smith kicking five from six goals, mostly from out wide, left the final score at 34 to 16.We are home for the next two games against teams just below us on the ladder."
Harkin said both the men's and women's teams would play at home on Saturday from 2pm.
"Come down to the bird cage and cheer on the kingfishers for a couple of big wins, with both sides in finals contention," he said.
