HELPING HAND: Sport and recreation clubs can apply for state government grants worth $2000.

Sports minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the program was open to not-for-profit clubs and would help with the cost of equipment, training or operational expenses.

A total of $7.65 million was dished out to almost 4000 clubs during round one of the program last year.

"The COVID-SAFE Active Clubs Kickstart Program offers a hand-up to buy sporting equipment or help with the cost of electricity, water or ground maintenance," Mr Hinchliffe said.

"Clubs could also receive $2000 to train coaches in latest techniques to keep teams firing or support volunteer treasurers with the tools they need to grow their club's finances for the future.

"The Active Clubs Kickstart Program is designed to help volunteers build resilience and capability to ensure local sporting and recreation clubs remain at the heart of their community's COVID recovery."

Mr Hinchliffe said a state-wide survey conducted last year found that providing resources for volunteers was one of the highest priorities for clubs.

"We've listened and we're helping clubs and volunteers with the tools they need for the work they do in their communities," he said.

Applications for the grant program are open until Wednesday, May 5.
