SCENIC Rim Regional Council has announced it will temporarily close all council-controlled campgrounds within the Scenic Rim Region as of close of business today, until further notice.

Council said signage indicating the closure of these campgrounds will be installed in the coming days.

This includes the campgrounds located at:

  1. Andrew Drynan Park, Running Creek
  2. Bigriggan Park, Rathdowney
  3. Burgess Park, Lamington
  4. Darlington Park, Kerry
  5. Stinson Park, Lamington
  6. Flanagan Reserve, Barney View
  7. Lake Moogerah Caravan Park, Moogerah
  8. Sharp Park, Witheren
  9. Rathdowney Memorial Grounds, Rathdowney

A council spokesperson said a group of men currently living at Rathdowney Memorial Caravan Park would be allowed to stay.

"As per Australian and Queensland Government requirements, permanent residents of caravan parks and campgrounds are permitted to stay, ensuring they abide by social distancing and hygiene practises," the spokesperson said.

Council said all requests for refunds on pre-bookings could be requested through the park operator at each location.

They said all council playgrounds would also close and electric barbecues switched off within the Scenic Rim region with signs to go up in coming days.

Council-controlled community leased facilities closed down on March 25, following the advice from the Australian government's announcement regarding closing community facilities and also banning non-essential gatherings to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.

Regular users of these facilities are urged to direct questions to the community group that manages these facilities.
