Scenic Rim land values up more than six per cent on average since 2018

INCREASED: The rise in land values is said to be caused by a higher demand for rural residential property.

AN increase in the demand for rural residential properties has been identified as a contributor in the slight rise of Scenic Rim land values in the 2020 land valuations released Wednesday.

Local land valuer Greg Crowley said valuations were based on the price land is selling for in various locations around the Scenic Rim.

"These valuations will be used to determine things like council rates and state land tax from June 30," he said.

"It doesn't mean rates are going up, that's for council to determine."

Queensland's valuer-general Neil Bray said the valuations reflected land values on October 1, 2019 and showed Scenic Rim had increased by 6.3 per cent overall since the last valuation in 2018.

"Residential values have held steady in Beaudesert, while the region's commercial and industrial land saw minor increases," Mr Bray said.

"The rural residential and primary production markets had minor increases since the 2018 valuation."

Mr Bray said some places such as Boonah saw minor increases in median values due to greater demand, with the average value of residential land in Boonah jumping from $102,000 to $112,000.

He said landowners who believed their valuation was incorrect and could provide supporting information, could lodge their objection by May 5 online or at the address shown at the top of their valuation notice.

The valuation listing for Scenic Rim can be viewed at the Scenic Rim Regional Council, Beaudesert Customer Service Centre, 82 Brisbane Street, Beaudesert and at the Boonah Customer Service Centre, 70 High Street, Boonah during normal business hours until close of business on June 2.
