BEAUDESERT residents turned out in all their finest to celebrate the race that stops a nation today.
It was beautiful and sunny Beaudesert weather for the celebrations, with Melbourne recording the odd shower and some westerly winds.
At 2pm workplaces across the Scenic Rim paused to watch as Australian horse Vow and Declare trounced international favourites to win the Melbourne Cup ahead of Prince of Arran and Il Paradiso.
Beaudesert RSL Services Club hosted a Melbourne Cup bingo morning from 10am with prizes, sweeps and best dressed competitions.
The club showed the race on the big screens and offered a special Melbourne Cup lunch at Diggers Bistro with a complimentary Furphy beer or Smirnoff Passionfruit and Lime Cocktail for those who pre-booked a table.

The Beaudesert Hotel hosted an all-you-can-eat buffet lunch with live entertainment and prizes for best dressed and best hat.
The Railway Hotel offered a winners' circle luncheon with bubbles on arrival, best hat, best dressed and lucky seat prizes.
