Kerry Dance for John Shirley surpasses all fundraising expectations

THE Kerry Hall was jumping on September 28 as more than 100 people turned up to help local campaigner Susan Short raise funds for brain cancer research in memory of John Shirley.

Mr Shirley was a much-loved member of the Kerry community who lost his life to the disease four years ago.

"The dance was a huge success," Ms Short said.

"The door raffle alone raised $728. I was hoping to hit the $5000 mark this year with all the fundraising (the dance being the final event), but we have actually reached $7000."

Ms Short said over the previous two years she had raised about $12,000 and this year she and her daughter had tackled the Bridge to Brisbane as part of the fundraising but the total result had far surpassed her expectations.

"We received an extremely generous donation of $1000 from Now and Zen opshop in Jimboomba, which also helped enormously," she said.

"Honky Tonk Man Mike Woollett provided the music and was excellent.

"Special thanks also to the Kerry Hall Committee for hosting the charity dance."
