AFTER the success of last year's Melbourne Cup day event, Towri Sheep Cheeses is once again hosting the sheep races on November 5 at 206 Saville Road, Allenview.

Towri spokeswoman Dallas Davidson said last year's races were a last minute idea that attracted 80 people.

"Melbourne Cup day was so much fun here last year," she said.

"This year we are hoping it will be bigger and better even though the past few weeks we have been battling bush fires and this crippling drought."

Ms Davidson said the day would start at 11am on Melbourne Cup day with complimentary champagne and sparkling lavender punch on arrival.

"This year we are serving canapes so people can move about, get out and cuddle their sheep," she said.

"We will have prizes for the best hat and best dressed lady, gentleman and kid.

"We will release information about the racing sheep closer to the date but betting will be by Calcutta draw.

"Each sheep will be easily identifiable by their coloured ribbons."

Ms Davidson said punters would have plenty of time to inspect their racing sheep, chat to the donkeys and feed the chooks before the Melbourne Cup race.

Tickets are $78 for adults, $30 for children 5-12yrs and $10 for under 5s. Bookings essential.
