Arts Ablaze - Scenic Rim Regional Council has just hosted the largest regional arts conference and festival ever staged in Queensland. Based almost entirely within the beautiful Kooralbyn Valley, it was an amazing collaboration of arts organisations throughout Queensland. Scenic Rim welcomed local, national and international presenters, performers, facilitators and artists focused on the transformation of regional communities through arts practice.
This event has demonstrated the diversity and resilience of our region and its people, while providing important economic boosts to our local businesses, including our many growing local arts communities. This event could not have been staged without the generous support of many volunteers and community-based organisations, as well as essential funding from the Australian Government, Queensland Government and many arts organisations.
Congratulations to the council's small, energetic Cultural Services team. We can all be very proud of what was achieved, working together with our local Indigenous Mununjali people and the wider Queensland communities in our beautiful region.
Garage Sale Trail is one big weekend of garage sales that proves small actions can make a big difference. Last year 4.6 million items were listed for sale at more than 18,000 garage sales, and 3.2 million kilos of secondhand treasures changed hands. Now that's making a difference.
This year, it could be even bigger but we can't do it without you. Join 400,000 Australians on October 19 and 20. Register to host a sale or start planning your shopping trail today and spread the word about putting secondhand first to save the planet and save money.
Scenic Rim Australia Day Awards 2020 - Our communities are stronger through the significant contributions of volunteers who selflessly give of their time, skills and support for the benefit of others. Let's recognise these amazing people by nominating an unsung hero who makes the Scenic Rim a great place to live. Nominations close Monday November 11 2019. See the council's website for details.
