GOLD COAST mayor Tom Tate joined Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen to survey the damage over the bushfire zone yesterday afternoon.

Cr Christensen said he invited Cr Tate to ride along because the fire has now on the east side run across the Numinbah valley to south of the women's prison.

"What we saw was widespread, significant burnt out areas and a number of still active fires being monitored and managed," Cr Christensen said.

"The extensive devastation was terrible but there was also some ray of hope as to what is still available."

Cr Christensen said he was impressed with the aerial management of the fires.

"The guy we were up with was the guy who assesses the fires from the air and determines where the aerial tankers should go," he said.

"It was very impressive to see how that was being managed."
