Beaudesert and Canungra send vital drinking water to Stanthorpe

THOUSANDS of bottles of drinking water were sent to Stanthorpe yesterday after a successful citizen campaign triggered a wave of generosity from residents of Canungra and Beaudesert.

About a dozen volunteers were on hand yesterday afternoon to load up a truck donated by Cowboy Trucking owner Kris Jennings, who put his hand up to deliver the water to Stanthorpe.

The campaign started when business women Holli Annie and Jo Sellens decided to collect donations of drinking water to send to people out west struggling with the reality of drought.

Ms Sellens said they had been overwhelmed with support from local businesses as well as from mums and dads who bought an extra slab of water in their grocery shopping to contribute to the cause.

"We are really grateful to everyone who got on board with this," she said.

"Individuals gave just as much as the businesses did, here in Beaudesert as well as in Canungra."

The donated water was stored at Ms Sellens' shop, Backroads, in Beaudesert and Ms Annie's Holli Dolli boutique.

"The water will be delivered to three schools at Stanthorpe and to the Stanthorpe Rotary Club who will distribute it in the region," Ms Annie said.

"We have to send a really big thank you to everyone who helped us out with this."
