CASSIE Buchbach has been recognised for her compassion towards patients, being named Beaudesert Hospital's Nurse of the Year.

The Griffith University alumnus started with the hospital two years ago as part of the 2017 graduate nursing program.

She then told Queensland Health aid she wanted to gain regional exposure in nursing and was already familiar with the facility and the community, having done a placement at Beaudesert Hospital as a student.

Ms Buchbach said the diversity of patients and the opportunity to care for paediatric, surgical, medical and rehab patients was something she relished every day.

"I particularly have a passion for palliative care so to be nominated for this award for showing compassion and empathy to my patients is such an honour," she said.

Ms Buchbach said she was thankful for the supportive team around her at Beaudesert Hospital who had provided leadership experience and shared knowledge along the way.

"They really feel like a second family to me," she said.

"The qualities I have gained from working at a rural hospital and some of the difficult situations I have faced are all skills that will help me to continue to grow as a nurse and set me up for the rest of my nursing career."

As part of her prize for winning the award, Ms Buchbach will attend the National Nursing Forum in Hobart in August.

She said she looked forward to welcoming and mentoring new staff to Beaudesert Hospital.
