KOORALBYN pharmacist Mina Ibrahim gave up his day of rest yesterday to help a community that had been without a doctor for three days last week.

Kooralbyn has only one GP and one pharmacy, so when Dr Shahab Khan was off work sick from Tuesday to Thursday last week his appointment list became backed up.

The clinic and the chemist are normally closed on Sundays but to make up for lost time, Dr Khan worked over the entire weekend.

Mr Ibrahim said since the doctors was open, he decided to work as well.

"We have been busy, there have been many people with colds and flu," he said.

"There is no other pharmacy nearby so us being open helps keep the community feeling secure and safe."

Mr Ibrahim said he wanted to prevent people who were feeling unwell having to choose between driving out of town to get their medicine or waiting until Monday morning.

Kooralbyn will again be without a local GP from July 16, with doctor Khan away for four days due to health issues.
