Mountain bikers take on a 24-hour endurance race at Kooralbyn

ENDURO bike riders showed true grit at Kooralbyn over the weekend by taking part in the 24-hour MTB Endurance Race in Kooralbyn.

Organiser Andrew Bonney from On The Edge Events said it was the first time a 24-hour endurance race had been held in Kooralbyn for about a decade, with more MTB events planned for the Scenic Rim in coming weeks.

"There is the SEQ Downhill series event at Kooralbyn next Saturday (practice day) and Sunday (race day)," he said.

"This is the first downhill race here in Kooralbyn since 2004.

"Our next event is on the July 14 and is a race out at Mt Barney Lodge," he said.

"This is a trail race and is part of the Scenic Rim Trail Running Series.

"Then we have the Scenic Rim Gravity Enduro event in Kooralbyn on July 21."

The race went well with the last rider crossing the finish line well before 11am and with plenty of time to spare.

Each rider received a medal and the winners received prizes including accommodation packages from the Ramada Resort Kooralbyn. local produce hampers and Scenic Rim honey.

The four person mixed team race was won by team Cornholio followed by Oliver's Army and Earning the Beers.

Condev Constructions took the four person male team prize, followed by runners-up Hold my Beer.

The six person mixed team prize went to Team Kelly - Featuring Ned.

Individual solo riders prize for Masters 40-49 Male was won by Bruce Flesser with Russell Worthington coming close second.

Michael Hawley won the veterans aged 50+, with the open 30-39 women's prize going to Audrey Guillemin.
