SCENIC Rim Regional Council is hosting a free movie night for families.

The free Movies in the Park program will feature the family-friendly tale of Peter Rabbit on the big screen at Beaudesert, Tamborine Mountain and Boonah to celebrate National Families Week in May.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the early evening events were not only for families but also aimed to bring the community together in a relaxed setting.

"Whether you're young or just young-at-heart, these free events are a great way to connect with others in your community," he said.

Council said the Free Movies in the Park sessions would kick off at 5.30pm for a 6pm start on the following dates at these locations:

  • Saturday May 4 at Jubilee Park, Beaudesert
  • Saturday May 11 at Tamborine Mountain Sports Complex
  • Saturday May 18 at Coronation Park, Boonah.

With a free movie, popcorn and giveaways council said movie-goers needed only to bring their own chairs and blankets, local clubs would be selling food and drinks and there would be gas heaters to ward off the chill.

Peter Rabbit is a new take on Beatrix Potter's classic tale of a rebellious rabbit trying to sneak into Mr McGregor's vegetable garden. Peter will stop at nothing to drive Mr McGregor away as the two wage war over the garden and Bea's affection.
