KALBAR author Gillian Wells has received international accolades for her novel Possession, with the book featured in the 2019 London Book Fair New Title Showcase last month.
The novel is the second offering from Ms Wells who said she had her first book Belonging published two years ago.
"Possession is about a beautiful woman who meets a successful man and is swept off her feet," she said.
"They marry but from the moment they meet, he controls her. She runs away to Australia but he lures her back.
"It is about domestic violence and it's set in the late 80s before everyone had mobile phones and could call for help."
Ms Wells said she was pleasantly surprised that the book was chosen for the showcase, after starting her writing career after her children were grown.
"When I left school nobody went to university," she said.
"Certainly none of my peers did. I always wanted to write so my father bought me a typewriter and said, 'here you are, get on with it then'.
"But I didn't do anything with it for years I had lots of stories in my head but I never wrote them down until I self published a children's book called The Amazing Adventures of Bub and Tub in 2010."
Ms Wells said she and her husband first came to Australia on holiday from England 31 years ago to visit family.
"We were coming over every year and decided to move over permanently," she said
"We are country people, my husband was a farmer so we explored the Scenic Rim.
"Our house in Kalbar came on the market on a Wednesday and we bought it by the Saturday."
Ms Wells' third novel Travelling was launched at the Story Tree in Boonah last month and there will be a meet the author event at Canungra Books and Arts on April 28 from 11am.
