Thursday afternoon horse racing at Aquis Beaudesert

A small but enthusiastic crowd enjoyed a day of racing at Aquis Beaudesert.

The seven race card got underway about 1pm, with the last race to start at 5.05pm.

Ben Robinson and Greg Cornish were leading the local charge against some of the best trainers from Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, including Kelly Schweida and Ben Currie.

Aquis Beaudesert food and beverage manager Brian Hays said attendance numbers were down but that was not unusual for a mid-week event.

He said the weather had turned out great and he expected more racegoers to trickle in as the afternoon progressed.

"The barbecue is going well," he said.

"The steak burgers have been a hit."

Hays said at the culmination of today's event Aquis Beaudesert employees would turn their attention to preparations for the massive Anzac Day meeting.

"We're gearing up for Anzac Day," he said.

"It is one of the biggest racedays of the year."
