Aussie riflemen outgun rivals at Palma Long Range World Championship

The Beaudesert Rifle Club’s Lee Robinson and Ryan Biss have returned from their New Zealand conquest victorious.

The pair had travelled to the Trentham Rifle Range Reserve in Upper Hutt to contest the New Zealand National Prize Shoot, the Masefield Championship, the Ballinger Belt and the International Palma Long Range World Championships.

Robinson and his Australian teammates had their hearts set on bringing home the Palma Championship after a disappointing showing in 2015.

The Aussies lost the first range but were unchallenged for the remainder as they took the lead and edged further ahead to finish 77 points or an entire shooter in front.

“It was an outstanding performance by everybody,” Robinson said. “Australia had not won since 1988. All the hard work paid off.”

Robinson also jagged two bronze medals for outstanding shooting on individual ranges within the team competition.

Biss and his under-25 Australian unit also aimed up, taking out the World Championship and gaining invaluable experience.

Experienced official Jeff Day joined the talented riflemen abroad. He acted as a range officer throughout the competition.

Robinson thanked the Beaudesert Rifle Club for its support in raising $1000 to help the local contingent travel across the ditch.
