The Country Club Pavilion hosts an Australia Day event to remember

AUSTRALIA Day went off with a bang at the Ramada Resort’s Country Club Pavilion, with games, food, fashion and the obligatory toad race.

Many people taking part had started the day with breakfast at the town’s newly installed sports field, where they enjoyed a sausage sizzle, pikelets and a friendly game of cricket in support of the Kooralbyn Valley Community Association.

As the day heated up, so did the competition, with visitors vying for glory in field games and a best-dressed contest.

Games ended with a sudden death play-off requiring finalists to complete a three-legged race balancing a raw egg on a spoon.

Mother and daughter team Amanda Holmes-Brown and Kirra McShane made it to the finish line ahead of the pack, taking the title as well as a free bottle of wine for mum.

The best dressed gong was shared between Laravale dairy farmer Jamie McCrea who sported a charming ensemble with an Aussie flag theme and Pav employee Melissa Weir, who went the extra mile with the face paint.

The highlight of the day was the toad race, which saw locals sponsoring their favourite toad, with all funds going to the KVCDA to support community projects.
