SPECSAVERS has called for nominations in the search for a community cricket champion.

The official eyewear and eye care partner to Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricket team, Specsavers has called for cricket fans to nominate a local legend by visiting communitychampions.com.au and explaining why their local cricket club member or volunteer deserved to be recognised for their hard work, support of the local cricket team and dedication to the sport.

Specsavers said it would reward one deserving community cricket champion and their team with an invaluable training experience with cricketing great Ian Healy and members of the Australian cricket team who will visit their local club to test their skills and hand-eye coordination.

To be eligible, nominate your community cricket champion before January 27 for a chance to take part in the skills session.

Specsavers said to ensure the team kept their eye on the ball, the club would also receive complimentary eye tests at their local Specsavers store and glasses for those who require them.

Specsavers cricket ambassador, Ian Healy said he was excited to see the incredible people behind Aussie cricket being recognised through the search for a local community cricket champion.

“Each and every player on the Australian cricket team started out playing community cricket, and it’s at the thousands of local cricket clubs around Australia where that love of the game began,” Healy said.

“We’ll keep our eyes peeled for the best in community cricket and I’m looking forward to acknowledging our well deserving local community cricket champions.

“It’s great to be working with Specsavers and Cricket Australia to celebrate the best in community cricket and to give volunteers the credit and recognition they deserve – after all, it’s what makes the game all it is today.”

Specsavers Beaudesert Optometrist Partner Steven Lyhne  encouraged local cricket fans in Beaudesert to put forward a deserving cricket champion for the experience.

“We’re excited to offer cricket fans in Beaudesert the opportunity, it would be fantastic if a club in our community was chosen so members can gain invaluable skills and knowledge in a sport they love, whilst making sure their eyesight is at its best,” Mr Lyhne said.

“Being trained by a professional player who knows the game inside and out is a unique opportunity that the chosen team will be sure to benefit from.”
