The Beaudesert Cricket Association in consultation with the Mununjali and Yugambeh traditional Aboriginal elders have adopted the name Borobi for its senior teams.

Borobi is an indigenous word from the Yugambeh people referring to the koala.

With Beaudesert cricket heralding a new era, secretary Leigh Morgan said the association wanted to come up with a fresh identity which not only respected the heritages of the former clubs but also paid tribute to the traditional owners of the land.

“We wanted to bring our heritages together and bridge the cultural gap between indigenous and non-indigenous people,” she said. “Beaudesert cricket is honoured to include some indigenous culture into its new look teams."

The Beaudesert Borobies are contesting division one and two in the Logan District Competition this season after several clubs clubs folded due to low numbers.
