Storm no obstacle to Beaudesert bowlers

PRESIDENT’S Day at Beaudesert Bowls Club on Thursday was a big success in spite of the nasty weather.

Visitors from clubs both near and far included bowlers from Paradise Point, Musgrave Hill, Beenleigh, Belmont, Canungra and Coolangatta.

Outgoing president Bev Bryan said the day was an annual tradition for lady bowlers to come together for a friendly game, so she had made the decision to name it Friendship Day.

“The day was a lot of fun, it was so good to hear the laughter on the greens and know that everyone was enjoying themselves,” she said.

“I couldn’t get to sleep last night for worrying about the rain forecast.”

Ms Bryan said they had been fortunate that the rain held off until end of play but the storm that hit town soon after midday saw the club plunge into darkness as the power went off.

Beaudesert members and their visitors sat down to a celebratory lunch and presentation ceremony in relative darkness but that did not dampen enthusiasm for the event as the winners were announced and cash prizes handed out.

The winning team was F. Hines, D. Hyland, C. Stubbings and H. Bunney with second place going to B. Markwell, B. Ramsay, J. Odernatt and J. Dent.

In third place were T. Johnson, R. Smith, C. Timms and G. Blank with a Lucky Losers encouragement prize also awarded to the team in last place, B. Richards, B. Perry, D. Harlen and B. Bryan.
