Tree falls on cars on William Street at Beaudesert

A midday storm has caused a large tree to fall on top of three cars on William Street at Beaudesert.

First respondent Scenic Rim Commander Inspector Chris Robinson said no one was inside the cars and nobody was injured.

The tree is lying across the road in front of the Scenic Rim Optometrist and is blocking traffic in both directions.

Police are at the scene directing traffic and SES and Scenic Rim Regional Council personnel are working to remove the tree to allow the cars to be towed and traffic to return to normal.

A Beaudesert Police spokesperson said chainsaws were being used to cut the tree into smaller, more manageable pieces, so it could be removed from the road.

“Minor traffic diversions are in place,” the spokesperson said.

Inspector Robinson said three houses were struck by lightning on Serena Street at Beaudesert causing the ceilings to become filled with smoke.

He said no other damage was sustained locally and the public’s common sense approach had been helpful during the storm which came from nowhere and hit rapidly.

He reminded locals to take due care in the inclement weather.
