Beaudesert High's Archibull team calls for community support

The Art 4 Agriculture Archibull Prize has entered the People’s Choice phase and Beaudesert High’s team needs the community’s help to get its project over the line.

The competition’s judges flew up from Sydney on Wednesday to examine the school’s entry which the students have dubbed Woolinda.

Agricultural science teacher and lead on the Archibull project, Laura Perkins, said the 11 students had conquered their nerves and performed admirably during their presentation.

“They spoke very well,” she said.

“Their conversations with the judges were fluent.

“They were knowledgeable.

“It’s not easy to judged by people you’ve never met before.

“The kids have put so much heart and effort into this and the school is really proud of them.”

This year, Beaudesert has also made the final for the blog portion of the competition, with year 11 students Ramneek Kaur and Mackenzie Roberts charged with running and maintaining the school’s entry.

The girls had to take photos and write diary entries recording Woolinda’s progress from a blank fibreglass cow to the colourfully decorated and robotic finished product.

Ramneek said the team knew what it needed to work on to improve on last year’s entry and its hard work had paid off.

“The project gives us the chance to try new stuff, make new friends and explore hidden talents,” she said.

The judges scores will be combined with the result from the People’s Choice and blog parts of the competition to determine the top ten schools overall, which will head to Sydney in November for the final.

So with the initial judging complete, it is now up to the public to get behind the team and vote.

Ms Perkins urged supporters of the school to vote and share the link with friends via Facebook and Twitter.

“We need the town to back up us on this,” she said.

“We can only achieve this with the support of the community.”
