Crowds flock to the 80th Canungra Show

CANUNGRA put on a ripper of a party today for the 80th birthday of the Canungra Show.

Despite the threat of rain, large crowds turned up to enjoy the horses, cattle, dogs and woodchopping displays.

There was a fine array of baked goods on display as well as home grown fruit and veg and exotic plants.

Sideshow alley provided all the old favourites as children happily stood in line for rides or showbags. 

Mayor Greg Christensen, Councillor Virginia West, Scenic Rim state MP Jon Krause and federal MP for Wright Scott Buchholz joined Canungra Show Society officials and guests for the national anthem at the official opening.

In Moriarty Park, dog lovers gathered to present their furry friends or indulge them in a game of fly ball.

The festivities continue tonight with a fireworks display and a rock show featuring a big line up of musicians including Mental as Anything, The Point O Five and Electrik Lemonade, Sally Skelton and the Haystack Mountain Hermits.
