The Boonah Rodeo has been postponed until September 22 due to impending rain.
The event had been planned for Saturday but organisers have been forced to reschedule because much-needed rain is expected to fall from around lunch and continue into the mid-afternoon, with the possibility of a late storm.
The Boonah Rodeo committee and John Gill and his team made the decision to move the annual rodeo to an alternative date at a meeting held this morning.
Organiser Jason Gill said noone is whinging about the rain but with it anticipated to arrive just as the rodeo is kicking into top gear it was felt the right call had been made.
“The rain could make it unpleasant for viewers and if the storm hits, it could turn into a disaster,” he said.
“We want to ensure people enjoy themselves, so they continue to support the rodeo in the future.”
Mr Gill said in the past organisers had taken the risk and let the show go on when faced with similar circumstances, but the availability of the September 22 date this time around gave them a viable option to postpone.
He said the event will be bigger and better this year thanks to a reconfiguration of the arena and a ramped-up after party, featuring the number one rodeo entertainer in the country, Big L.
“Come September it will be all systems go,” Mr Gill said.
