Beaudesert’s McAuley College has taken out the Overall Percentage Trophy at the South-East Colleges Association (SECA) Athletics carnival.

The fledgling institution achieved the outstanding result at the world-class Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) at Nathan.on Tuesday.

Sports co-ordinator Amy Richards said it was an amazing performance by all 40 team members, especially when you consider McAuley College is only half the size of many of its rivals.

“It’s a wonderful result and a credit to the students and their efforts,” she said.

“But it was their participation and team spirit that stood out on the day.”

Team representative Luke Walsh said he was very proud of his teammates, many of whom trained meticulously throughout the season to prepare.

“It was a tough competition but it was really fun,” he said.

Luke, who contested the 100m sprint and long jump said he enjoyed the experience of competing at QSAC on the fast all-weather tartan track.

“I achieved close to my personal bests, so I was happy with that,” he said.

Ms Richards said the track and field program emphasised participation with the budding young athletes honing their skills during HPE and sports sessions but also training in their own time.

“It just demonstrates how passionate they are about achieving their best and challenging themselves,” she said.

On August 30, McAuley College will send 16 athletes to trial for the Pacific District Team.

The Beaudesert Times wishes them the best of luck.
