BEAUDESERT Boxing Club’s up and comers have been putting in the hard yards and are ready to prove their worth in the ring at the Golden Gloves tournaments next week.
Beaudesert Boxing Club trainer Justin O’Leary said there were 14 fighters at the club with Golden Gloves potential but they would not know how many of Beaudesert’s finest would make the draw on Monday.
“The draw will be streamed live on Boxing Queensland’s Facebook page on Monday night,” he said.
“We have 14 kids hoping to compete at the Golden Gloves but we will have to wait and see.”
Mr O’Leary said there were several fighters he predicted would produce stand-out performances at the tournament.
“Like 11-year-old Tom Gill – he’s doing really well at the moment,” he said.
“Tahlea Toohey, 13 and Ryan Porter, 14 should also do well in their divisions.
“Those three have been training the hardest for this.”
Mr O’Leary said rising star Dylan Biggs would be fighting in the under-18 youth division.
‘Dylan has gone up another weight division too, from 69kg to 75kg,” he said.
“The Golden Gloves will also be a good warm-up for Kalob Gray before he heads off to Germany next month.”
The Golden Gloves event runs from Thursday, August 23 to Sunday, August 26 at the Acacia Ridge Hotel.
