The Beaudesert Kingfishers take on powerhouse the Mudgeeraba Redbacks in QTOP Doug Lipp action this Saturday with kick-off at 6pm.
The Kingfishers, who sit third on the ladder, enter the game optimistic of pulling off an upset win over the competition frontrunner after the two sides recorded an 18-18 draw in their clash earlier this season.
Beaudesert Kingfishers’ coach Keith Gee said his team, which is boosted by the return of several key players from injury, will need to improve on that performance if they are to claim the two points.
“We’re looking forward to the battle,” he said.
“It will be a very high quality game.”
Gee said his team will take the Redbacks on through the middle third but with each outfit possessing potent backs he expects the game to be decided on the edges.
“They have a very big mobile pack, so we’ll be working on our first contact in defence and ensuring we play with plenty of aggression,” he said.
“Both sides have a couple of really quick guys, so it will be an interesting contest when the big boys fatigue.”
The Kingfishers encourage the community to go along to Willis Park on Saturday to support the club at their second last home game of the season.
It will be a great day of rugby league with the U19s kicking off at 3pm and the reserve grade green taking the field at 4.30pm.
