Inaugural member, past secretary and Beaudesert Bush Bard patron Betty Markwell will long be remembered with a tree planted at the group’s recent picnic on June 8.

Ms Markwell recently died, aged 91.

The annual picnic entitled Poetry With The Rainbow Serpent held at Il-Bogan Park brought poetry back to its bush origins with event organiser, Ian Gasking describing the event as hugely successful.

“The occasional showers did not prevent us Beaudesert Bush Bards and our friends from enjoying an outing designed to take bush poetry back to its origins in the bush,” he said.

The event was open to all poetry lovers, performers and writers.

Beaudesert Bush Bards president Pamela Fox said the event was the third event staged in the bush.
