The use of green, re-useable bags at Woolworths Beaudesert is on track with singe use plastic bags to be removed from June 20.

Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci recommended the bag for good bags, which can be purchased for 99 cents and replaced for free.

Money made from the sale of the Woolworths Bag for Good funds the Junior Landcare grants program, encouraging young Australians to play an active role in ensuring the sustainable future of their environment.

Landcare Australia CEO, Dr Shane Norrish said the Woolworths Junior Landcare program was designed to help younger Australians to become more aware of environmental issues.

Assistant store manager Richard Mullenberg said the store was currently setting up recycled bag stations at the store.

“Customers can bring in their old pastic bags and put them in the red recycle bin and we will organise to have these recycled for them,” Mr Mullenberg said.

Plastic straws will also no longer be available for sale at Woolworths Beaudesert by the end of this year.

Woolworths has also reduced plastic use in fruit and vegetables.
