BEEF week is done and dusted for another three years and local producers were able to shine a light on Scenic Rim cattle at the Rockhampton event.
Two led steers and one Limousin bull produced at Kalbar were shown by 14-year-old cattle farmer Billy Goetsch.
Billy’s father, Kalbar cattle producer and livestock auctioneer Neil Goetsch said his son had entered two competitions and came away with a blue ribbon for each category.
“He came first in both,” Mr Goetsch said.
“Taking the prize for the bull was probably the highlight of the trip for us, because there was definitely a lot of competition in that class.”
He said they had been in Rockhampton for nine days in total and were glad to be home.
“We are catching up on all the jobs we should have been doing while we were away,” he said.
“Billy of course was very happy with his wins and he would rather have stayed at Beef Week than go back to school.
“When we got back he caught some calves and said he was going to get them ready for the next Beef Week in three years.
“It’s amazing what a bit of success can do to make you keen.”
