SCENIC Rim’s own “Beaudesert bullet” Riley Day has achieved her first Commonwealth Games objective by making it to the 200m semi-finals after coming third in the round one heat today.

Day said it was awesome to have had the crowd behind her.

“It’s motivating as well,” she said.

“All I wanted to do was get into the semis and I did that.

“I didn’t run the full way... I knew I had to run relatively fast but once I saw where I was I eased up to conserve as much energy as I could.”

Immediately after the race, she was asked about her game plan going forward.

“To run as fast as I can, try and get into the finals,” she said. “If get into the finals, that will be a bonus – we’ll see how it goes tomorrow night.”

Day was also asked how many Beaudesert supporters were in the crowd.

“I don’t really want to know, the more people here that I know makes me even more nervous,” she said.
