Scenic Rim residents urged to support school chappies

SCENIC Rim residents are being encouraged to support a petition by Federal MP Scott Buchholz to extend funding for the successful National School Chaplaincy Program in the lead up to the 2018 Federal Budget.

“When I visit local schools I get tremendous feedback about the value of our local ‘chappies’.

“They make a real difference in our school communities - providing pastoral care and assistance to many students, staff and parents,” Mr Buchholz said.

“The program is about practical community support - not religion.

“It is currently funded only until the end of the 2018 school year.

“I am fighting to ensure that the funding extends beyond this year and I’m asking for help from local residents who know first-hand what a great job our chappies do.”

Mr Buchholz has created an online petition and is asking locals to add their name so he can let the federal treasurer and education minister know how much our local community values the work of chaplains in local schools.

“More than 3,000 schools across Australia are lucky enough to have a school chaplain, with many in Queensland supported by SU Chaplaincy which provides funding, training and resources.”

“Our local school chappies are great supporters of our schools, students, staff and parents and now it’s time for the community to show their support in return.”

“I encourage locals to get behind our school chaplains and sign my online petition to ensure chappies remain a part of the social fabric of our school communities in the future.”
