The Beaudesert Pacers may have already celebrated the end of a successful year but that doesn’t mean the season is completely over for the walking group.
Pacers co-founder Shelly Currie said the group had planned a special Christmas walk for December 21.
“We will meet as usual at the Beaudesert pool but we will be dressed in all our Christmas finery,” she said.
“We will walk from the pool up to Elysium Village and have a bit of a walk around there before we head back.
“The Christmas walk is a chance to be happy and joyful as we go through the town.”
The walking group will reconvene some time in the new year, Ms Currie said.
“There were about 20 people at the Christmas party at the Beaudesert Hotel, all members of the Pacers,” she said.
“We normally walk on Mondays and Thursdays from the Beaudesert pool to Albert Street, past the showgrounds and into Oakland, about five kilometres and everyone walks at their own pace.”
Ms Currie said the group would be easily recognisable to anyone who would like to join them because they now have flash new colourful shirts with Beaudesert Pacers emblazoned on the front.
She said the shirts were purchased with the help of council funds via the Healthy and Active initiative.
“A lot of friendships have been made in this group and new members are invited to join us at any time,” she said.
“We’ve had dads, mums, prams, families and furbabies— all are welcome.
“It’s a way of getting into the local community, it’s free of charge and it’s really fun.”
