FIRE and flood have failed to fell Duff’s Secondhand furniture shop in Brisbane Street.
“I have been operating since 1993 and have been through fire and flood and I’m still here, thanks to my many loyal customers,” owner Ian Duff said.
He started the business with his ex-wife Renae.
“It was a great way of getting furniture of all different kinds and your little knick knacks,” Mr Duff said.
“We offer secondhand furniture for the household, plus what ever I can get hold of.”
One of the biggest challenges facing the business is social media and websites where people can take part in online auctions.

“It’s a tough business these days as people expect you to pay top dollar [for goods they want to see] but I have to get a return on my outlay,” Mr Duff said.
But his shop has the edge: “I can take your furniture away in one hit and you get paid straight away.”
Customers in search of secondhand furniture come in all types.
Students are often eyeing bargains for their new accommodation, young parents are seeking good, serviceable items for their expanding families.
Then there’s the bargain hunter in search of vintage and antique furniture.
One of the more unusual pieces of furniture sold is a bar made out of timber pallets.
“It sold for $50 and is on lay-by,” Jason Venz said.
Ms Venz has worked with Mr Duff in the shop for about 10 years.
The shop also has several electrical recliner chairs for sale.
“We have a wide range of furniture, including dining room suites, coffee tables and lounges,” Mr Venz said.
Mr Duff said a big attraction about Beaudesert was the people.
“They’re very friendly and that’s what’s good about a country town,” Mr Duff said.
