Oaky Creek shed burns for six hours

ABOUT 10 tonnes of hay was engulfed by flames after a fire broke out in an Oaky Creek farm shed.

Emergency services received a call just after 4am yesterday about the incident on Oaky Creek Road.

Firefighters arrived to find a timber shed, containing 50 tonnes of hay and farm equipment, fully alight.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said urban and rural firefighters worked on controlling the fire which lasted almost six hours.

QFES said while the fire was being extinguished, firefighters took precautionary measures to ensure the flames would not spread elsewhere.

This included ensuring there were no potential hot spots or flying embers beyond the shed.

After the fire was brought under control at 6.30am, about 40 tonnes of hay was removed while the remaining 10 tonnes was lost.

The last QFES truck left at 10am and the owner was told to monitor the burn on the farm land.

QFES said the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.

No one was injured.
