On Friday, October 13, celebrity athletes and sports journalists will tee off for the Dynamic Private Wealth 13th Ticker Masters event at the Ramada Resort, Kooralbyn.
The event was named for Wayne ‘Ticker’ Heming, who was a rugby league writer for 40 years and was inducted into the Suncorp Stadium’s Wall of Fame earlier this year.
“I started the Ticker Masters 13 years ago as a way for players and journos to celebrate the end of footy season,” Mr Heming said.
Mr Heming said the Ticker Masters was a fully sponsored niche event that allowed golfers to play and stay at the Ramada for free.
He said confirmed players for this year so far included rugby league greats Gene Miles, Michael Hancock and Wally Fullerton-Smith as well as coach Bruce Palmer and Steve ‘Pig Dog’ McLeod from the Brisbane Bullets.
“It’s a highly competitive event with plenty of ego on the tee, but not much talent,” Mr Heming said.
“The highlight of the day is usually the storytelling at dinner, where the stories are embellished a little more every year.”
