Canungra Turns Pink for fundraiser

CANUNGRA will be painted in pink next month with decorations on shopfronts, parks and homes to raise awareness of all types of cancer.

Turning Canungra Pink is the town’s major fundraising event among businesses and residents, hosting several activities throughout October.

Local business owner Di Crooks, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, began fundraising at her cafe for several years before the Canungra Chamber of Commerce became involved and created the month-long campaign.

President Desley Bird said the initiative raised thousands of dollars each year. “To see a small community raise so much money in October each year is amazing,” she said.

Ms Bird said there were exciting times ahead with more businesses and community members participating next month.

The campaign will include a shop window competition and new pink themed events such as a launch day on October 1, an Alpaca picnic on October 13, a car rally on October 22 and a school country fair on October 21.

All proceeds go to Cancer Council Queensland.
