UNSTOPPABLE: Katherine Russell, the face of the Children's Hospital Foundation's Woolworths wall token campaign.

Woolworths shoppers who buy a wall token to support the Children’s Hospital Foundation may see the face of 12-year-old Flagstone State School student, Katherine Russell .

Katherine’s photo is on the wall tokens and her mother Cynthia Russell said the family could not be more proud.

“Katherine has cerebral palsy and she’s had a lot to do with the Children’s hospital, so she jumped at the chance to help,” Ms Russell said.

“She has had several major surgeries and they’ve given her a quality of life she wouldn’t have otherwise so it’s one of the only ways she could think of to say thank you.

“Katherine can’t walk independently and she uses a wheelchair or motorised scooter to get around but she doesn’t let anything hold her back.

“She does dance, sings in the choir and plays drums in the school band.

“Katherine also swims and plays tennis so she is very busy and now she’s a bit of a celebrity too.

“A lot of people have been into Woolworths and recognised her face.”

The regional Wall Token campaign raises funds for sick kids in local communities across Queensland and Northern NSW.

All money raised through Woolworths stores in the Beaudesert area will help the Children’s Hospital Foundation brighten the lives of children like Katherine, who call the region home.

Children’s Hospital Foundation Chief Executive Officer Rosie Simpson is calling on shoppers to visit their local Woolworths and purchase a $2 Wall Token before Sunday, October 1.

“There are almost 250 Woolworths stores across Queensland and northern NSW filled with team members passionate about making a difference for sick kids and their families,” Ms Simpson said.

“Childhood illness hurts.

“It hurts the kids who must endure it and it hurts their families.

“The Children’s Hospital Foundation relies on the generosity of Woolworths team members and customers to help us continue our life-changing work.

“We’re dedicated to helping sick kids, which is why it is vital to fund equipment for better treatments – because every child deserves the opportunity of a happy, healthy life.

“Adding a $2 Wall Token to your grocery does make a big difference.”
