The Beaudesert Kingfishers Australian Modular Homes Reserve Gold team travelled to Runaway Bay on Saturday to take on the Seagulls in a top of the table clash.
The Kingfishers needed to win on Saturday to remain on top of the ladder.
However Runaway Bay were hungry for the top spot and came out hard and fast in front of their home crowd.
Sam Gee was first to put points on the board and Nick Harkin converted.
Josh Lucas followed shortly after to score in the corner and after 10 minutes the Kingies lead 10-nil.
Runaway Bay’s attack was hard and fast and the Kingfishers defence could not hold them out as they were able to get across the line, taking the score to 10-4.
Both teams battled it out for the next 15 minutes until Jayde Williams scored right before half-time. Nick Harkin converted and Kingfishers went to half time in front 16-4.
Runaway Bay were first to score in the second half bringing the score to 16-8.
A rising penalty count against the Kingfishers saw them defending in their own half with the opposition throwing everything at them but the Kingfishers defence prevailed.
Sam Gee extended the lead when he stepped though the defence to score his second try, Nick Harkin converted and the score was 20-8 to Beaudesert with 10 minutes left to go.
Finally, a quick break from Germaine Paulson put Alex Gee over in the corner to score just before full time to seal the Kingfishers victory 24-8.
Next week Beaudesert travel to Southport.
