AFTER weeks of felting, knitting and sewing, a textile group has donated a collaborative piece to a Beaudesert community support group.
Women of the Cloth members presented Beaucare with the handmade quilt to show their gratitude for allowing them use a room as their meeting place.
Each square took about 8 hours to create with group members using a style of their choice - crocheting, felting or eco-dyeing – before it was sewn together.
Beaucare business manager Ainsley Hinkins said staff were appreciative of the gesture and displayed the gift for everyone to see.
“We encourage the community group to use our centre and it was lovely to see them give us this beautiful quilt,” she said.
Ms Hinkins said the group had also donated sensory cloths made from different materials for Beaucare to use.
“Social workers have given the cloths to children they work with and they’re being used as a calming tool for them to keep,” she said.
Women of the Cloth convenor Wendi Trulson said it was important to give back to a community that already gives.
“We have been using this room for about a year and a half and we thought it was a great idea to have a project that would be donated to Beaucare,” she said.
Ms Trulson said there were nine members who meet monthly to learn new textile skills.
“There are women here from all walks of life – we all have different ages, some of us work, some don’t and we are all from different places,” she said.
Ms Trulson said she was a member of the Australian Textile Surface Design Association for several years and traveled to Brisbane for meetings.
“Driving there and back home (Beechmont) was exhausting and I knew a lot of textile ladies in the Scenic Rim,” she said.
“I wanted to see if there was interest for a group here and there was.”
Ms Trulson said the group was proud that many of their artworks have been exhibited in the Scenic Rim since beginning.
She said she was looking to expand memberships and would like to welcome any newcomers along to their monthly gatherings.
