FSG Beaudesert will host an information session about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as the funding becomes available in Beaudesert for the first time.
About 8,000 people in the Ipswich, Beaudesert, Lockyer and Summerset area are expected to be eligible for the scheme.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, April 20 from 10.30am.
FSG spokesman Gordon Craik said the organisation has been busy talking to many families about the NDIS process.
“The workshop will ensure the community is prepared when the NDIS rolls out into Beaudesert,” he said.
Mr Craik said it would help people access relevant information as well as outline the major changes that have been made to the disability support system.
“The information session will help people understand what the changes mean for them and their families and how to prepare their applications,” he said.
“A lot of people aren’t aware of what they can access in their package and this is how we can make sure they know what boxes to tick and make sure they are on the right track.”
Mr Craik said staff would also meet with families and individuals to assist them.
“We can help with preparing a user friendly planning document they can utilise when they get their planning phone call from the National Disability Insurance Agency.”
Mr Craik said applicants needed to go through four steps – eligibility, consideration of their needs and goals, a meeting with their planner and applying the package plan to NDIA.
