ONE’S trash was another’s treasure on Saturday, as men and women young and old gathered at the Boonah Cultural Centre for a clothes swap.

The inaugural Swap your Style event was held as part of National Recycling Week celebrations alongside the Boonah and District Cultural Foundation’s Bookfest event.

Swap your Style, which was coordinated by the Boonah Girl Guides and the Boonah Organisation for a Sustainable Shire (BOSS), attracted dozens of bargain hunting visitors throughout the morning.

Participants brought along unwanted clothing and accessories from their own wardrobes and then sifted through piles of pre-loved clothes from other participants, leaving the event with newfound outfits.

The Salvation Army also benefited from the event, with left over clothing being donated to its op shop in Boonah.

Organisers from the Guides and BOSS said they were happy with community participation in the clothes swap, and they had received positive feedback from those who participated.

BOSS secretary Julie Jackson, who helped organise the day, said organisers were boosted by Saturday’s success.

“We’ve already made plans for next year’s event to take place again with the Bookfest and we’re also thinking to include a clothes swap at the World Environment Day Festival,” she said.
